What is Compress Image?
Image compression reduces file size without a noticeable drop in photo quality. The tool typically makes files 50 to 80% smaller by re-saving as WebP or AVIF, or by reducing PNG with palette compression.
Choose a compression level, Default (quality first), Strong (balanced) or Maximum (size first), or set the quality yourself. Great for shrinking photos for blogs and online stores or for email attachments, and you can check the result size before downloading.
How to use
- Upload the photos you want to compress. You can upload several at once.
- Choose the compression level and output format (WebP, AVIF, JPG, PNG).
- Click "Compress Image", check the reduced file size, then download.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I compress a PNG and keep it a PNG?
- Yes. Choose PNG as the output format to reduce file size with palette compression, which cuts the number of colors while keeping the PNG format.
- How much does quality drop?
- At the default level, the difference is hard to see. You can zoom in on the original and result side by side in the comparison view.
- What if it has to be under a certain file size?
- Enter a target size (KB) in the "Resize to File Size" tool and it automatically finds the best quality that stays under it.
